Besides the obvious physical changes that have occurred over the past 3 1/2 months I'm amazed at how I have changed as a person. I thought I was depressed only because I couldn't play soccer but after I started working out and doing cardio I realized that I was depressed because I was being inactive. Now, not only am I happier…I feel healthy again.
The best way I can describe being obese is, I felt like I was sick for a long time and now I am better. I know I still have a lot of work to do, to get to where I need to be physically, however now I have the drive, determination and confidence to do it and I know I will do it. Four months ago I didn't have any of that.
I have to say thank you to you for this, because the trainer that got me to this point is one of your trainers. Before finding this trainer through Coughlin Fitness & Results I had gone to a trainer at my gym, who wasn't any good. I was about ready to quit and then I found your website and decided to just give it a shot. I thought if I did your six week total body makeover thing and it didn't work I could say I tried...and get my money back.
Those six weeks literally saved my life. If my mom died at 42 or a heart attack, I was certainly headed there as well. So thank you very much for saving my life!

When I first called for information about training services, I was skeptical. I have always been fairly fit and spent lots of time in gyms. My impression of a personal trainer was someone standing behind you and helping you lift something heavy. The ones at the gyms where I've belonged never seemed to know anything special or be all that different from friends of mine who work out a lot. But I needed inspiration and consistency after moving to a new city, so I signed up for the Total Body Makeover.
"This was, hands down, the best decision I made during my big transition, and one of the best decisions I've made in life!" I've always fought those 15 extra pounds, and really wanted to lose them, and to just be fit and toned. I also am a bit of a cardio-junkie, so Jim worked with me to develop a program that was harder, faster, and more intense than I've ever exercised before. The key was that Jim was flexible, and really listened to me when I told him I know what works for my body, and that I don't have much time during the day, so any hour I spent with him would have to incorporate both strength and cardio.
He listened, and, using his knowledge and what I had told him about me, pushed me to my limits for 6 weeks. "We mixed strength training and cardio and that, in combination with my changes in eating and drinking habits, I saw incredible results. I couldn't believe it, Jim couldn't believe it, and you might not either but, I lost 7 lbs. total (18 lbs. of fat! And converted 11 of them to muscle), went from 31.4% body fat to 21.1%, and lost 11 inches overall! I knew I felt and looked better, and that my clothes fit better, and that in general my attitude and mood were lifted, but I never expected results that drastic. Jim measured me 4 times in each spot to make sure!"
I never got bored during 6 weeks of training. We were jogging, sprinting, running stairs, jumping jacks, etc. etc., whatever we could do to mix it up and make it interesting and different. The best part? Jim was right there next to me, whether we were running around the monuments on a cold fall morning, choosing landmarks to sprint to, or running the stairs in my apartment building on a rainy day, he was always right there next to me, doing what I was doing. Jim is definitely not just a treadmill-button-pusher.

It's going great as far as I can see. Daniel really looks forward to working
out with Eric. "I've noticed Daniel seems to carry himself a bit "straighter"
and doesn't drag his left foot as much. That in itself was worth the money -
And Erics personality fits Dan's demeanor as well - Daniel is also more "self motivated" now to go downstairs and work out even
on his own - never did THAT before!!!
SO - so far so good! We MAY need to extend this a while - maybe at two times
per week. We'll look at our finances, but in the mean time, we can take what
he's learned, and combine it with your workout book which I'm starting to

First let me say that I have extremely high standards. And Erich has surpassed all of my expectations. Every exercise he has me do is rooted in scientific based information--there is always a reason why he has me do something. There is a method to it all.
When I first started with Erich, I wanted to get in shape for my upcoming wedding. I was married in June and I will keep working out with him because I see the value. In the beginning, I couldn't even do one push up. Erich worked with me and now I am doing 7 sets of 20 push ups. That's not the "girlie" style push-up either, it's the full on guy style push-up! That's 140 push-ups in one session! Not to mention all the other things he has me do during our time together. He is truly the best in his field. "My husband comments on how great I look. People at work notice also. My clothes fit better. I can eat more b/c I have so much muscle I just burn off the extra calories. Overall my body is much tighter and more compact. I have definition in every part. Also, I feel so much better. I am better at my job because I have more energy.

If you could only hear us moan & groan for two full days following a workout, you would fall over laughing! "Dan & I are very pleased with our personal training, and we look forward to each session! Our daily energy level has increased a lot, we are much more in tune with our physical well being, and we are eating much healthier (mostly fresh fruits & vegetables, dairy, and meat). Paul is a very ideal trainer for us because he is so down to earth, and his demeanor & method of training is always calm and pleasant. I am coming to the end of my sixth week with Hannah, and I have really loved the experience. "I have lost almost ten pounds and over 4% body fat!" After my program is over, I'm going to try it on my own for about eight weeks. In the meantime, I'm going to start saving to sign up for another set of training sessions with Hannah. So, I am sitting here writing this testimonial and to be honest, I am still in complete shock. "The transformation of my body over the last 16 weeks is truly astonishing. I lost 35 pounds, 29 total inches, dropped 15.6 percent body fat and gained 15 pounds of muscle!!!!"
I think that the most important thing that I have learned over the past weeks is that those infomercials and gadgets are just gimmicks. All you really need is to make a commitment, a true 100% commitment to getting back in shape and you can make it happen. (Oh yeah, a kick-ass, rock star trainer helps as well). I changed all three critical facets of my life -- my exercise routine, my eating habits and my drinking habits. I now work out 10 times a week, eat sensibly every day (except on my free day (I LOVE my free day)) and drink 65-80 ounces of water a day. "I have busted my butt, have been singular in my focus and worked harder than I ever thought was humanly possible. But, I am proof that you can do it!!

I can be classified as part of the "senior" sector of our population and have had the challenge of osteoarthritis for some time now. Both knees, an elbow, and my ankle were all affected.
I was a bit hesitant to begin a physical workout program, fearing it would only make the pain I was suffering from, worse.

Paul is awesome! I had a minor set back and need to have knee surgery...(an old and compounded injury).....so we pretty much have had to concentrate on my upper body. Because of my knee, my cardio pretty much consists of a stability ball and boxing drills. Who would of thought I could break a sweat in a seated position? "The injury notwithstanding, Paul has found away to take someone who absolutely hated to exercise to someone who can't wait to get breathless!" His great sense of humor make the workouts even more fun if possible. I will be starting a second six week session next week.

Things are going really good. I am right now 13.5lbs lighter and hoping i can keep it up for an additional 40lbs to go. My diet i have to keep in check all of the time. Roy has taught me how to not have to go to the gym to workout. My biggest struggle was when to fit the gym in and i think i will keep it up by working out in the comforts of my own home on days when i dont feel like going to the gym. I just wanted to let you know that everything is going great! Eric has been working me real hard
with his circuit training. "When I first saw him walking into my house with
his bosu ball and the other big ball, I thought to myself , no way is this
going to be a hard workout. Well, I was wrong!" It took everything out of me
and all I did was the warm up and 1 circuit. I am now up to 5 circuits. I
feel stronger, I am eating much better, and I have more energy than ever. I
have not weighed myself at all during this process, because I am weird about
that, but I do know that I have been getting many compliments on how it
looks like I am dropping weight. I am not even half weigh through the 8
weeks yet, but I am very happy with Eric and what he has taught me so far. I
am looking forward to using this for a long time even after I get to my goal
of losing 50-60 lbs before my wedding next July. When I am comfortable
enough I will weigh myself, to know where I am at and where I need to be. "I
think I am headed in the right direction now and I am determined to stick

"We're doing great! We think Todd is wonderful -- if a tad sadistic. Seriously, without his encouragement and guidance, there is no way we would push ourselves to the extent to which he is able. He's funny and entertaining, but totally knowledgeable and determined!" We're already seeing improvement in muscle tone and definition, and he is having us provide him with copies of our nutrition logs so he can "crunch the numbers" and see if we could be eating smarter. Just keeping the logs for a week or so, we're amazed at the number of calories contained in certain foods (i.e., nuts) - we had no idea. He is also encouraging us to eat our carbs mid-day as opposed to in the evening, and that has been amazingly easy to do. Thanks!

Hi Jim, I am very pleased with Tiffany... she challenges me, yet has respect for the limitations
of my body. I always feel 100% better/healthier after our time together. I've gone from 10 minutes
huffing and puffing on my bike when I started to 45-50 minutes with relative ease, as I did
independently today! Surprisingly, I do situps and crunches quite easily and Tiff always praises me to the
hilt and then I giggle like a little girl at her approval. Then she makes me do 30 more. "I've lost 15 pounds, and have become much stronger, especially abs and quads. That's important to me because I have osteoarthritis, and I'm a candidate for knee replacement. Building up muscles that support the knees is critical for me, as is losing weight.

When I first started seeing Coach Mark, I was so slow, it looked like I was carrying a trailer behind my back! But, I kept seeing him and after a few times, my Dad said he saw a whole new Trevor.
Then, my arm got stronger from all the Diamond Strength classes I took with him. I started out throwing at about 48 mph, but now after those classes, I throw much harder.
Coach Mark helped me with two more things. One was my hitting. I used to hit dinkers to 2nd base and now I can hit it to the fence!
The other thing he taught me is discipline. He says that it's okay to goof off a little bit at practice, but during a game, it's all about focus. You have to tell yourself that you're not scared of a guy throwing 62 mph. "When you believe, you'll be excited at what miracles can happen!

Being diagnosed with chronic hypertension, I knew I needed to have a well-balanced diet and a custom exercise regiment in order to have a successful pregnancy and healthy baby. Anithea Johnson was more than willing to assist me in achieving both goals and did so with a caring yet determined attitude.
At the onset of working with Anithea, I consistently had blood pressure readings of 140/90. During our six- month training sessions I worked out 3 times per week for one hour, monitoring my blood pressure daily along with eating a well-balanced diet. Anithea constructed aerobic exercises specifically designed for pregnant women while keeping in mind that I have high blood pressure. The exercises strengthened my legs and thighs along with increasing my level of stamina...something greatly desired by all women going through labor.

Jim, "I don't even know how to begin to thank you!" They say a picture conveys more than 1000 words. It also clearly conveys the truly remarkable results I have achieved, largely due to Jim's knowledge, his commitment, his enthusiasm and his never ending support! Below are my "before" and "now" pictures because I haven't reached "after" yet. The before picture was taken the first session of the Total Body Makeover, August 15, 2005. I weighed 211 pounds, the most I have ever weighed. "As of today, March 24, 2006 I weigh 151 pounds! In a little over 7 months of working with Jim, I have lost 60 pounds, a total of 54 inches and 13% body fat!" When Jim and I first met, he told me we were working toward a goal of 130 pounds, I thought he was crazy! Now, that goal is in sight and I truly feel that the possibilities are endless. Jim, I couldn't have done it without you and I can't even begin to thank you for the difference you've made in my life!!

Jim, Thanks for your e-mail. Training is going great! "I lost about 8lbs in the first 2.5 weeks doing the workouts Adam taught me and some cardio!" I got really sick two weeks ago so that put a damper on things, but last week I was back up and running. My lower body strength has increased dramatically (I've gone up ~25-30 pounds in each exercise since I started with Adam) and I'm even finding working on my abs to be fun. I had my first upper body workout with Adam the other day and he was great. As you may recall, I have some serious issues with my right shoulder/arm. Adam took that into consideration and gave me a workout that kicked my butt using, if you can beleive it, only 10lb dumbells! I felt kind've sheepish about using that light a weight, but seeing as how my right arm had so much trouble with it I know that it was the way to go.
My eating habits have also changed dramatically. While I do not strive to eat 100% healthy all the time, I am very conscious about portion control and sugar intake. I think prior to working out with Adam I would eat 3500+ calories a day, about half of which came from some simple sugar or carbohydrate. Yesterday I ate 2100 calories, and they only simple sugar I had came from an apple I had as a midafternoon snack.
"So all in all things are going very well, and I am very happy with the results I am getting!" Even though I haven't lost much weight since the first two weeks, I certainly feel better and have more energy. One thing that sums it all up for me happend the other day when my wife mentioned that my pants don't fit the same way and my gut doesn't look as big as before. That totally made my day! Take care.

I started working with Todd in 2004, having never worked out at a gym. I'd lost a friend younger to me to
heart disease, and it was my own promise to her memory in my exercising to go sign up.
I had originally thought I could do it on my own, that I wouldn't need a trainer to help me long term. I've learned
differently since then. The expense in my mind now, is an investment; to keep me on track, continuing a training
program, gaining strength, feeling better, eating better and taking better care of myself.
"Todd's been instrumental in that process! He's made time for me when it wasn't particularly convenient
for his schedule. He's varied the routine so that I don't get bored. He's pushed me beyond what I think is
possible in terms of what I can do, how much weight I can push or pull, how many reps I can do, that I can do an
exercise at all!" On the occasions when I do work out on my own, I hear his reminders of "chest up", "arms straight",
"keep the weight in your heels", "you've got this", "get stronger now" and "good set". He's made suggestions
on better times to eat, better choice of foods, things to do in terms of stretching, cardio work, and exercises
to do on my own. He's helped me deal with minor injuries and sore and tight muscles that happen when a "never a gym
person" starts any program like this, and gives me tools to help myself.
I really have enjoyed Todd as my personal trainer! Thanks so much!!

Hey Jim, I just wanted to send you a quick email to let you know how things are going. The first six week session ended this week & we've now started on
the second six weeks. "As of now, I've lost about 15 pounds, gone down over two sizes and have lowered my body fat % by about 6.5%!!" More than that, I
feel like I am on my way to having a normal life - six weeks ago I couldn't accomplish everyday tasks from beginning to end without stopping (i.e. I
couldn't carry the laundry up two flights of stairs without stopping & sitting for a few minutes to catch my breath, I couldn't empty & load the
dishwasher without stopping because my back would hurt) - now, those everyday tasks are getting easier & easier to get done!!
Jake has done an excellent job kicking my ass and pushing me beyond any point I thought possible!! I think I've gone up & down the stairs more times
in the past six weeks than in the eight years I've lived in this house...the carpet on the stairs may have to be replaced pretty soon -
but it'll be worth it!!

I was surprised that I was able to fit into some much

I contacted Coughlin Fitness & Results because I was tired of being out of shape. After I signed up, I was partnered with Jim Coughlin. That was 12 weeks ago and I am VERY HAPPY with the new me! "I have lost about 6 inches in my waist - which is my major area of concern and 4-5 inches everywhere else and it is all due to Jim!!" Jim told me what I needed to do as far as diet and cardio where concerned and I did EXACTLY as he said. That is the key to my success. The final piece was the weight training and Jim was right there with me every step of the way. In the beginning, I was so sore, I thought I never wanted to see Jim again, but as I started to feel stronger and look better (and the soreness went away! (SMILE!), I knew I had to keep going.  "Jim Coughlin saved my life!!" All of my life, I have had a weight problem, and, then, three years ago my wife suffered a debilitating stroke that required me to become her primary caretaker. I suddenly ballooned up in weight and was getting no exercise. My physical and mental health declined until I finally got the wherewithal to call Coughlin Fitness & Results. Once I did, I immediately began to make the right choices concerning my health.
The trainer assigned to me was Jim Coughlin; an enthusiastic young man. I must admit that I thought he was maybe too energetic for someone my age and in my condition, but after talking to me, Jim quickly assessed my needs and began building a program for me that would eventually result in restoring my physical condition as well as giving me more confidence in myself.
Jim knows his stuff! He gently, but forcefully, began to put me through my paces. My main goal was to lose weight. Jim mapped out a plan that would help me do that and to turn that fat into muscle. Jim has never failed to offer me encouragement at every turn, to instruct me in proper technique so that I do not hurt myself, and has consistently stayed focused on my goal. In my case, my inertia to get off my duff and to do something about my weight was caused by my mental state of feeling overwhelmed by my wife's condition coupled with a very demanding job.
