You Don't Have to Be a UFC Fighter
by Jim Coughlin
In the past year, I have grown very fond of the UFC aka the Ultimate Fighting Championship - www.ufc.com. I'm like a junkie.
It's a sport that many consider violent and controversial, yet if observed more closely is very exciting and epitomizes what sports should represent.
Surprisingly, it's the only sport my wife likes. Yes, this sport is entertaining for women too.
And the reason is simple. It's very fast and gets right to the point. Someone gets knocked out or submitted and it's over.
With other traditional sports such as football or baseball it usually takes 3 hours to determine a winner and most of time, my wife is bored and asking me questions.
But not with the UFC. The longest a fight can be is 15 minutes or 25 if it's a championship bout.
Anyway, I'm getting to my fitness point. Another reason I like the UFC is because these guys eat and sleep fitness. I mean, they make me look like a couch potato.
The fighters from the UFC are considered some of the greatest athletes in the world -training as much as 6 times a day! Their strength and cardio regimens are beyond intense - they're insane. Yet that's what they have to do to compete in the UFC.

Now think about your life.
You are NOT a professional athlete and you obviously don't have time to exercise 6 times a day. In fact, an hour or may be even 30 minutes is a stretch.
So let's say 15 minutes a day is all the time you have to commit to exercise. Well then, that's great. At least you're doing something.
Sure, you're not going to achieve the body of your dreams within a month, but at least you're not making excuses either.
The point is, you're making the commitment to be healthy. And you're staying true to yourself.
It doesn't matter what other people are doing. What matters is your following a fitness program that works for YOU. Once you feel that 30, 45 or possibly 60 minutes a day is more suitable, well then, you'll make that determination.
That's all for now. Remember, you don't have to be a UFC fighter to be happy and healthy. Just get started and the rest will take care of itself.
Best,

Jim Coughlin
P.S. "The In-Home Personal Trainer" course I came out with over a month ago takes this EXACT approach. You don't have to start off full-throttle. If (insert number) minutes is all you feel comfortable doing then that's what you should start with. Eventually, as you get stronger and build your endurance, you'll progress to something more.
