Beware of the Gym Rat
by Jim Coughlin
I was talking with one of my Dial-A-Trainer - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/dial_a_trainer.php clients today, Larry, who has been working with me for a couple months now.
Since he started my program, he has dropped 10-15 pounds, drastically improved his cardiovascular endurance and has made phenomenal gains with his strength and stamina. Though he still has about 40 more pounds to lose, he is WELL on his way.
Anyway, we started talking about his strength training routine and I hear this:
"My routine from your book - The In-Home Personal Trainer went great yesterday Jim, except one exercise gave me some difficulty." He said.
"Really...Which one?" I asked.
"Well, the thing is, this personal trainer at the gym DIDN'T want me to do it." He said.
"Are you kidding me...Why?" I asked.
"Well...first, he interfered with my workout, telling me the so-called rules and regulations of why I can't move equipment around because I needed to use one of the stability balls with the exercise."
"I understand that if I didn't put it back, he would have a point, but this was only for one lousy exercise...and even so, what business is it of his anyway...this was completely uncalled for." He continued.
"He then tried to lecture me and say that the exercise I was attempting was TOO difficult for me because he thought I wasn't coordinated enough. He said. (Very disgruntled at this point)

"This guy doesn't know me from Adam. Since I don't have a chiseled physique like him, he essentially thinks I don't know what I'm doing, and that if I follow the same routine HE does, I'll get results...Gimme a break. He said.
"All the guy does is chest, back and arms..."
"From the training in the past couple months, the results I've achieved and as you've told me...working ONLY the upper-body would be a complete waste of my time." He said.
"Exactly." I said
"So, the long and short of it is, the guy made me stay an extra 10-15 minutes longer than I would of liked...but the good news is, I managed to complete the workout."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that Larry. It never ceases to amaze me how impersonal gyms are." I said.
"Yeah, I want to quit, but I'm stuck in this contract for another couple months...Owell." He said.
Look, if this isn't enough reason to ditch the gym scene, I don't know what is.
Instead of having to deal with bully trainers (or gym rats as I like to call them) who don't know what they're talking about AND could care less whether you achieve your fitness/weight loss goals or not...You need to start discovering how you can get the body you want...right from your own home.
